Description of the video:
My name is Katie Thibodeau. I'm from Indianapolis, and I'm a bio major. I've been living in the women in stem LLC for two years. I chose to live here because it seemed like a good way to meet people and to get involved with the stem community at IU. My work in Megan Fields’s lab in the department of chemistry and I express protein in e.coli cells and then purify that protein for the grad students and it’s just the exciting time that you're actually like doing something that could have an effect on like medicine in the future. Well since stem is such a traditionally masculine field it's very hard for women to like get a strong foothold so having this LLC prepares you for the workforce and giving you contacts. It's important to have the support of other women because it shows that you can do it and it's just nice to know like there are people that I've already done it and then they'll help you do it too you.
