Service Learning

Gain firsthand experience with the community and real-world needs. Service learning provides students with a broader and deeper understanding of their area of study, fosters their sense of civic engagement, and enhances their perception of themselves and their role in the community. This form of engaged learning improves students interpersonal and organizational skills which can also help them with future career decisions.

IU provides a variety of service-learning courses that you can register for and combine an academic approach with real-life experiences.

Visit the Service-Learning Program website to learn more and to see a current list of classes.

Global Community Engagement

Overseas Study

From the colorful country of Italy to the waterfalls of Costa Rica, explore overseas while also developing skills that are valuable for your future career. Studying abroad is an opportunity for students to gain personal growth, and create a broader global and cultural understanding.

You will benefit from studying abroad by immersing yourself in foreign languages, global cultures, internships, and strengthening transferable skills in an international context. Whatever your major is, you can spend an academic year, semester, summer, or even a few weeks abroad while earning IU credit.

If you are interested in studying abroad, meet with an advisor in the Office of Overseas Study.

The IU2U program is a unique opportunity for current undergraduate students to travel the world and prepare incoming international students for their studies at IU. If you are interested in refining your leadership skills, sharing your love of IU, while traveling and engaging in cultural exchange experiences, the IU2U Student Leader program could be for you.
